Taekwondo was once known as Korean Karate, and today is practiced by over 42,000,000 people in 186 countries throughout the world. It is an Olympic Sport and is normally seen as the most successful martial art in the world. We are also a proud member of Taekwondo Australia Inc, and Taekwondo Victoria Inc. (national and state sporting body) and we are an active supplier of services to the Australian Sports Commision and their after care activities programs. 

Taekwondo, or Korean Karate for kids is one of most popular martial arts programs and we now have several hundred children training in our Ringwood and Healesville centres. Recently we introduced our "Eager Ninjas" pre-schooler program for 4 to 6 year olds and it has been met with an enthusiasm response from parents wanting their active pre-schoolers to get a great head start.

Martial Arts, Taekwondo, and Karate for kids has proved to be a very positive activity for the development of young people. Psychology research in the USA found that children doing Taekwondo showed an increased sense of responsibility, a decreased willingness to take unnecessary risk and a higher sense of self esteem. 

Discipline & Respect - Children in Martial Arts

Our program teaches children Self Discipline & Respect for others. Black Taekwondo instructors are highly trained, patient men and women who enjoy working with children. They are very definite about setting limits so that children understand the concept of self development and self control. We have found that by enforcing good rules of behaviour in class the children develop their skills quickly and very often demonstrate the same good behaviour at home and in school.

Confidence

Our incremental reward system is designed to improve a child's self esteem and confidence. Black Taekwondo's grading system is the key to building a strong self esteem. When children earn their new belts it gives them a great sense of accomplishment that directly improves the way they feel about themselves.

Self Defence

Our Program teaches children practical, proven Self Defence methods.

The grading syllabus includes a significant amount of practical self defence for kids. We also teach them that the techniques they learn in class will work and are to be used only in real danger situations. They are firmy told not go home and try them on their family members or neighbours.

Children's Taekwondo Gradings

Children's grading rank is known as 'Ai Gup' and applies to children under the age of 12. There are different belt colours for children's and adult's ranks. For Ai Gup gradings there is a reduced Self Defense component, but all other parts of the grading syllabus (eg. pattern, kicks, blocks etc.) must be performed.

The gradings are usually held at our central Ringwood Taekwondo, Self Defence and Martial Arts Centre 362 Canterbury Road, Ringwood, situated in the middle of Melbourne's Eastern suburbs.

Competition & Sport

Black Taekwondo - Ringwood, is one of the most successful competition clubs in Melbourne.

Children can also gain the skills and confidence that Taekwondo Competition can offer them. As a coach for the Olympic Team - Athens 2004, Rod Black is extremely well qualified to offer the very best in quality instruction.

Children enjoy our Martial Arts training, Self Defence and getting fit at our Ringwood Taekwondo and Martial Arts Centre. They come from all over the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne, particually the surrounding suburbs – Warranwood, Warrandyte, Donvale, Doncaster, East Doncaster, Wantirna, Bayswater, Mitcham, Nunawading, Box Hill, Blackburn, Croydon, Mooroolbark and many more.
